The Artist Behind the Press
Hi! I’m Ulises Morales, an Automotive Illustrator and Color Separation Specialist based in Ensenada, Baja California—the world-famous mecca of off-road racing. For over 15 years, I’ve lived at the exact intersection of custom illustration and high-end screen printing.
The Evolution of a Print Engineer
My journey started back in the early days of basic CMYK separations in CorelDraw. Back then, we’d end up with shirts that felt like bulletproof vests—a thick, heavy layer of ink that was perfect for roasting your back in the summer heat! I knew there had to be a better way.
In my relentless search for quality, I discovered the magic of Index Color Separation. It was a game-changer, allowing us to achieve vibrant, multi-color designs on dark garments without even needing RIP software. Eventually, to push the boundaries even further, I fully immersed myself in the world of Simulated Process Color, mastering various RIP workflows and printers.
Through all these years, Adobe Photoshop has been my constant companion for color separation. For my custom artwork, I evolved my workflow from CorelDraw to a streamlined process using Adobe Illustrator and Clip Studio Paint. I am constantly exploring new tools and techniques, not only to improve my own workflow but to help other shops overcome their specific software or prepress hurdles.

Beyond the software and the ink, this journey has always been about people. I am profoundly grateful to the clients who have placed their trust in me over the years; it is a joy to see how we have grown together.
Distance, language, and culture have never been barriers to forging lasting relationships. Together with my clients, we have weathered global pandemics, economic crises, and personal hardships. Watching these businesses—both large facilities and small local shops—bounce back from adversity, and knowing I played a small part in keeping their presses running, brings me immense personal satisfaction.
